1980 (MLB): Kansas City Royals third baseman George Brett goes 4-for-4 to raise his batting average over .400 in the Royals 8-3 victory over the Toronto Blue Jays. The Royals were -220 home favorites as Brett would fall short in his pursuit to be the first major leaguer to hit .400 in a season since Ted Williams in 1941. His .390 average for the season remains the highest since 1941.


2003 (Golf): Ranked 169th in the world at the start of the tournament, Shaun Micheel wins his only PGA Tour title at the PGA Championship with a 2-stroke victory over fellow American Chad Campbell. Entering the tournament, Micheel was part of the 'Field' bet that paid only +350 to win the tournament.


2008 (Tennis): Spainard Rafael Nadal defeats Chile's Fernando Gonzalez 6-3, 7-6, 6-3 to win the gold medal in men's tennis singles at the Beijing Olympics. Nadal was a heavy -833 favorite for the match as he became world #1 for the first time in his career after rival Roger Federer held the top spot for over 4½-years.
